AN abandoned house in Taman Kubang Buaya, in Kuantan, is giving residents the jitters.

A woman, who went by Lim, said the house had been vacant for years and was an eyesore. She said people in the area did not know who owned it.

“The compound is often overgrown with grass, while some people will clean it from time to time. People who live nearby also often park their vehicles there.

“Our concern is that the place might become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests. People might also use it for irresponsible activities.”

Lim said she was told the place had been a playground until someone built the house illegally more than 10 years ago, but did not occupy it. She hoped the authorities would track down the owner or tear down the building.

ACTIONLINE:

A Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) spokesman said the council would check the premises and identify the owner.

He said MPK would also look into claims that the site was previously a playground and that the unit was built without permission.

“It is illegal if the person built the house on land meant for other purposes.”
