RESIDENTS of Permas Jaya, Johor Baru, are up in arms over rubbish dumped by the roadside leading to SJK(C) Pei Hwa 2.
Trader Hang Yong Kang, 44, said industrial waste and even big items, such as sofas, were dumped there.
He claimed that some people even conducted open burning, which worsened the situation.
“This has been happening for the past five years. We hope that the authorities can take action against these irresponsible individuals.
“Besides being an eyesore, open burning pollutes the air and affects our health.
“We have lodged complaints to the local authority and assemblyman, but the problem persists,” Hang said at a meeting with Johor Public Complaint Centre supervisor Syed Othman Syed Abdullah.

Johor Baru Mayor Amran A. Rahman told Actionline that the Johor Baru City Council had received many complaints on the matter with the latest on Aug 21.
He said the council had informed the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) and SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM) since it was an offence under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672).
Amran said both companies had done clean-up operations to solve the problem.
“SWCorp has placed a signboard warning people against worsening the problem at the location.
“It has also given a notice to the landowner.
“As there have been repeated complaints, SWCorp has conducted many clean-up operations. The last was on July 12.”
He urged the public to contact SWCorp at 07-222 6476 if the problem persisted.
