KUALA LUMPUR: One of two elevators at the Ara Damansara Light Rail Transit (LRT) station has been out of operation for almost a year, and this has caused inconvenience to commuters.
Passengers, especially the elderly and disabled, are forced to go out of their way to get to and return from the station’s “Park and Ride” area.
A frequent LRT user, who wanted to be known only as Azim, said the elevator nearest to the “Park and Ride” and connected to a walkway, had been out of order since last year.
He said commuters had to walk 50m to the second elevator at the other end of the station.
He said the extra 50m was not a problem for able-bodied people, but caused hardship to older commuters and those on wheel-chairs.
He urged Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, which is the rail operator of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, to rectify the issue.

A Prasarana spokesman, who checked out the situation on Friday, said the elevator outside the station had been shut down for maintenance.
He said Prasarana would add more signs to guide commuters and inform them of the non-functioning elevator.
“The elevator is under maintenance and needs to be shut down for safety purposes.”
He said he would look into the issue of inconvenience to elderly and disabled commuters.
However, he said disabled commuters preferred the second elevator as there was a ramp for wheelchair-bound commuters.
He said there had not been an official complaint about the issue in the past, adding that station masters were more than willing to help commuters if needed.
“We acknowledge the complaint and will add more signs to help commuters.”
All LRT stations in the Klang Valley were made disabled-person friendly in 2010, equipped with lifts, ramps, chair lifts and elevators.
